Tucked away just off the Market Square on Gilesgate, Bouchon Bistrot is a charming spot where the warmth of rural France meets the heart of Hexham. Serving authentic, country-style French cuisine with daily specials, the restaurant brings a true taste of tradition to the North East. Owner Gregory, originally from the Loire Valley, from a family of French restaurateurs and trained in Michelin-starred restaurants across France, infuses every dish with the flavours, techniques, and passion of his homeland.

Guests can start with favourites like our classic cheese Soufflé, steak tartare, before enjoying beautifully prepared mains such as our traditional confit duck served with Gratin Dauphinois, fine beans & bacon accompanied with a red wine jus. Each dish is crafted with care and simplicity, allowing the quality of the ingredients to shine. We offer the perfect setting for an informal, family-friendly dining experience in Northumberland, transporting you to France, without needing your passport.

In the heart of Bouchon Bistrot, our kitchen team works with precision, passion, and an abundance of French flair. Led by our long-standing Head Chef, Nico — who has been part of the Bouchon family for over 9 years — the team brings authentic French cuisine to life with skill and creativity. Nico combines traditional French cooking techniques with the best fresh, seasonal ingredients sourced locally, creating dishes that are both comforting and refined. Every plate reflects a deep respect for classic flavours while embracing subtle modern touches, ensuring each meal is crafted with care and served with genuine pride.
Our Restaurant
After a refurbishment back in 2021, we have 3 beautiful spaces in our restaurant. Each room is unique & decorated with a french charm throughout. From our first floor restaurant we have a sun-trap roof terrace split across two floors, perfect for those warm summer evenings.
